Can I Recycle Helium Tanks?
No. Please DO NOT recycle helium tanks or any other containers of compressed gas.
To properly dispose of a helium tank, or any other gas container, the entire can MUST BE empty. Use as much of the gas as you can, then in an open space, remove any caps and expose any vents to release any remaining gas. Contact your local waste collection company or household hazardous waste management agency for instructions on disposal.
If you’re placing the helium tank or gas container in your curbside trash cart, remove all caps and open all vents. Clearly mark it as a gas container, then crush or flatten it before placing it in the trash so collection workers can identify the container as a gas can.
